Friends of Lembongan (FOL) is a community organisation established by the owners of Sandy Bay Beach Club to
assist in the clean up of rubbish, and promoting local education in sustainable and safe waste management practices
around the Desa Lembongan area. The plan is , to over the next few years gradually expand the programme island wide.
Friends of Lembongan (FOL) is a community organisation established in 2012 by the owners of Sandy Bay Beach Club to promote the clean up of rubbish and the education of sustainable and safe waste management practices on the island of Nusa Lembongan.
Aside from clean up programmes with the local schools – and more recently local businesses - FOL has also distributed over 3000 ‘tas pasar’ (canvas shopping bags) to the local shopkeepers to encourage them to replace their plastic bags with reusable canvas ones.
In May 2016 FOL teamed up with Bali Children Foundation (BCF) to open a classroom dedicated to teaching English to the local children so that by the time they leave school they will be able to be gainfully employed in the local tourism industry thus enabling them to stay in their village.
As of 2017, we now have three English classrooms operational in three different schools. We also recently opened a computer classroom
equipped with 18 student computers and one teacher computer so that we can offer basic computer skills to all teenagers by the time they graduate from high school.
BCF provide the expertise and FOL supply the funding. To continue with FOL’s core objective, there is a strong environmental and ecological message to all the classes.
Our next big project is to expand the recycling centre and to set up sponsored rubbish bins around the island along with a collection service.
FOL is reliant on donations to keep these programmes running. There is a donation box next to the cashier at Sandy Bay Beach Club and for any other types of donations please email firstname.lastname@example.org
